Apply to Film and Video Studies

Majoring in Film is a 2-step process.

  1. Applicants apply to George Mason through the Common Application or visit http://admissions.gmu.edu/ for more information. You do not need to wait to get a response from Admissions before moving to step 2.
For current Mason students, see step 2.
  2. Submit a digital portfolio via SlideRoom that will be evaluated by our faculty. Your digital portfolio includes two short essays and creative work samples (described in detail below). Incomplete portfolios will not be considered.

Scholarships

Film at Mason awards scholarships annually to incoming and current Film majors.

See more information on the Mason Film Scholarship page.

New Students

Students must apply to George Mason University and submit their portfolio to SlideRoom by the deadline. If you'd like to meet with an advisor, sit in on a class, and take a tour of our facilities, please email the Mason Film program for more information.

Change or Double Major

Current Mason students must submit their portfolio to SlideRoom by the deadline. Have questions about the major or the portfolio? You may email the Mason Film program or make an appointment to discuss a change/double major.

Arts LLC

The Arts Living Learning Community (LLC) is a unique residential opportunity for freshmen majoring in the visual and performing arts.

Space in the Arts LLC is limited, and resident selection is competitive. LLC housing requests are in high-demand. Applications received early in the process are more likely to be granted housing preference.

Submission Process

Submit your information and materials (see Portfolio Requirements below) through SlideRoom.

We will provide a portfolio result by email within 1 month after the deadline.

If you have questions or concerns about the process or requirements, please email film@gmu.edu.
